Meeting every ship.
From the mouth of the Wear.
Foyboat Ltd makes quiet, careful software for everyday life.
The name
On the River Wear, a foyboat was the small coble that rowed out to meet the ships coming in past Roker.
Day or night, whatever the weather, someone was out there waiting for them.
One of them was Tommy, who helped bring Chris up.
When Chris founded Foyboat, he named it after him. Tommy met every ship steady and unhurried, and if he said he'd be there, you never gave it another thought. He carried more than most people knew and made it look light, and around him you were looked after before you'd thought to ask.
Everything we build starts there.

How we work
The foyboatmen didn't build the ships or sail them. They met them, took a line ashore and made them fast at the right berth, so the crew could rest.
We work the way they did.
What we do
Foyboat Ltd is a small software company with its roots in Sunderland.
We're starting at home, with software for family life. We hold ourselves to the foyboatmen's standard: be there when you're needed, and do the job properly.
The same standard
We make software that takes the weight. Every product gets its own charter, a set of rules it's checked against. These four hold for all of them.
- You steer
- It gets on with the small stuff. Anything done in your name waits for your say-so.
- Built to need less of you
- We'd rather you put the phone down. Good software gets out of the way.
- Your data does your job
- We use what we need to help you, and that's all. We never sell it.
- Quiet unless it matters
- No nagging, no noise. It tells you what you need to know, then leaves you be.
